Modern Band Concert at LR October 24th
Barton - The Lake Region UHS presents our annual Modern Band concert on Friday, October 24th at 7:00 PM in the LR Gymnasium. The LR Jazz Band, Modern band and solo vocalists will present music by Tower of Power, John Coltrane, Rodgers & Hart, Charles Mingus, Black Sabbath, Johnny Cash, CCR, Robert Johnson, Goodbye June, Couch, Evanescence, Tracy Chapman, Cranberries, and originals. Artwork by the LR visual arts students will be on display. Our Community Spaghetti supper starts at 5:30 PM, free to all concert goers. Admission is free but donations will be accepted to benefit the Music Activities and Scholarship Fund. This show is supervised by Dr. Sara Doncaster, LR Music Director at LR; and Chris Doncaster, bassist and LR Modern Band Instructor. Today in 5th grade Language Arts, students celebrated the end of their narrative writing unit with an Author Debut Party! Young authors shared a wide range of imaginative stories that highlighted their creativity and showed off what they know about the rules of writing. Their stories were full of wild & wacky characters & situations and were so much fun to read.

Last week, 7th and 8th graders from BCS had the opportunity to attend the STEM & Career fair at Northern Vermont University, Lyndon campus. Students learned about important career fields through a variety of activities, got to hear from and talk with professionals, and had some fun at a college campus!

The primary goal of the behavioral threat assessment is to prevent harm and promote the safety of everyone and everything involved:
the person showing unsafe behavior
students and staff impacted by the unsafe behavior
the school building and related property

Threat assessment is not an adversarial process; many threats are a cry for help. Having a team approach with a clear process allows for the safety of everyone involved. The process is designed to address, evaluate, and manage threatening behavior and troubling situations that may impact school safety. OCSU’s guide is based on best practices created by the U.S. Secret Service & U.S. Department of Education, and the need to follow these best practices are mandated by the Senate and House.

On Fridays, middle schoolers at BCS participate in a variety of clubs like Tinker Club, STEAM Challenges, Basketball Club, Digital Escape Rooms, French Club, and more. This week, our Outdoor Club got to try out some Fall Photography and Fairy House building! These clubs are a great way to have some fun and practice new activities on a Friday afternoon while getting to have mixed grade level groups.

We're not clownin' around! Tuesday, September 23rd is school picture day! Photo forms were sent home with students last week. If you are interested in purchasing school pictures, please fill out the form and send it to school with payment on Tuesday. If you need a new form, please reach out to the school ASAP. Last week, 8th graders were invited by Green Mountain Farm to School to participate in a gleaning field trip. They traveled to Cabot Smith Farm and gleaned over 800 pounds of yellow squash. This was a unique experience for students and a great way to connect with our food. Hopefully families were able to cook them up and enjoy the fruits of their labor over the weekend!
